When it rains, instead of having sidewalks and streets covered by worms—as is common in the midwestern states with which I am most familiar—we get sidewalks and streets covered by snails. And, as everybody knows (well, they should know anyway), snails kick ass. Most pro-Caifornia propaganda is centered upon the ocean, the weather, Hollywood, the economy, and the smug sense of self-superiority that people seem to get by calling themselves Californians. These things are all well and good, but I think more focus should be placed upon our wonderful and enormous populations of snails. You can keep the traffic, the pollution, the Hollywood politicos and the "Two-Buck Chuck," but give me the gastropods!

But Dave, they're cannibalistic! It's really quite gross. And they make such a slippery mess when they(inevitably)get stepped on.
Dave! Did you KNOW that snails are my favorite "animal?" (I know that's not the right word, but you know what I mean). They are! They have been for years! They are soooo amazing!!!!
Cool Cath

Maybe you go around murdering snails, but that certainly doesn't mean the rest of us do! And as for the cannibalism, that's just part of their mystique!

Actually you are correct. Snails are in the Animalia Kingdom. I didn't realize that you liked them, though! That's cool. Hmmmm...I wonder if we have a genetic propsentiy for gastropod appreciation? ;)
I wasn't saying that I kill them. That's even grosser because then the bottom of your sneakers are slippery. I avoid stepping on them at all cost. Maybe I just haven't yet learned to appreciate them. You are really stretching with the whole mystique thing there. You and Catherine go with your sibling solidarity though. :)

Well, I'm relieved to hear that you aren't guilty of snail homicide. Maybe someday you'll learn to appreciate them like the McNiel/Carlson's do.
...Or not. ;)
Its true, Dave! I once spent a very happy hour or two watching a snail slowly creep across the driveway. And, in the few picture we framed from our honeymoon, one of them is of a snail I saw. Is it nature, or nurture???
Cath
I don't know. Maybe we should encourage mom and dad to have another child who they can give up for adoption to a family in Sri Lanka. Then, after twenty years or so, we can call him/her up and ask if he/she thinks snails are really cool. Then maybe we can decide whether its nature or nurture.
Hmmm. Not only is that a really bad idea, I'm pretty sure it is officially impossible. Let's allow it to remain a mystery. :)
Hmph. You just have an underdeveloped sense of scientific curiousity!
